The City of Tampa is holding a meeting on Tuesday to discuss its post-disaster redevelopment plan, as city crews continue their preparations for the upcoming hurricane season.
During her State of the City address yesterday, Mayor Jane Castor provided an update on the city’s ongoing efforts and highlighted the progress made so far.
“We must become more resilient. Stronger, wetter, and more frequent storms are on the horizon,” said Castor. “Our geography presents both a tremendous asset and a significant challenge. We know that the status quo isn’t enough, and we are fully committed to making necessary changes.”
Since the start of the year, city crews have removed 500 tons of debris from the stormwater system, Castor noted. The city has also invested $94 million in critical upgrades to its stormwater infrastructure, including the installation of backup generators for pump stations.
Additional ongoing efforts include reinforcing sea walls, modernizing the city’s energy grid, and improving fuel access at Port Tampa Bay.
The meeting will take place at the Hanna Avenue City Center, located at 2555 East Hanna Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
