Florida motorists are seeing some relief at the pump, as gas prices statewide have dipped to $3.11 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). This marks the lowest daily average in two weeks.
AAA officials noted that while prices rose slightly early last week, climbing by 2 cents, they have since plunged by 10 cents in just four days. The drop aligns with a significant decrease in crude oil prices.
“The state average could hover around the $3 per gallon mark this week,” said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins, citing a $7 per barrel (12%) decline in crude oil prices over the past two weeks. Gasoline futures have also plummeted by 24 cents per gallon during the same period.
The latest report highlights the most expensive metro markets in Florida, including:
- West Palm Beach – Boca Raton: $3.25
- Naples: $3.21
- Sebring: $3.21
On the other hand, the least expensive metro areas are:
- Crestview-Fort Walton Beach: $2.81
- Pensacola: $2.85
- Panama City: $2.87
Tips to Save Money on Gas
AAA suggests the following strategies to maximize your savings:
- Combine errands to minimize driving time.
- Practice fuel-efficient driving by avoiding aggressive acceleration and speeding.
- Remove unnecessary weight from your vehicle, as reducing weight by 100 pounds can improve fuel economy by 1–2%.
- Use tools like the AAA mobile app to locate the cheapest gas stations in your area.
- Pay with cash to avoid extra charges from credit card transactions.
