The St. Petersburg City Council has greenlit potential remedies for the exorbitant water bills that have plagued numerous residents.
The issue of sky-high water bills emerged in the wake of last year’s hurricanes, with some residents reporting bills ranging from $1,000 to a staggering $10,000.
At a public hearing, frustrated residents voiced their exasperation over the lack of clarity surrounding the bill surges, despite the passage of several months.
The city has authorized funding for Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. to undertake a comprehensive utility billing analysis and water meter assessment. Additionally, the firm will prepare a rate study report in anticipation of next year’s public utility bonds.
According to city officials, Stantec has proactively completed the analysis, taking on the risk that the funding might not have been approved. The results of this study are still pending, leaving officials in anticipation.
