During a news conference in Palm Bay on Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that property tax relief will be on the 2026 ballot.
“We’re working to provide property tax relief, which is much needed in Florida. When properties are reassessed, homeowners often face drastic increases in their tax burden. Just because a neighboring home sells at a high price doesn’t mean every property should be taxed at that value—especially when the market fluctuates,” DeSantis stated.
He emphasized that while property taxes are determined at the local level, the state can take action by introducing a measure for voters in 2026. “People are feeling the squeeze. While the state doesn’t control property taxes directly, we can put something on the ballot to offer relief—and we will,” he said.
In addition to the tax proposal, DeSantis announced $389 million in grants dedicated to improving water quality and conservation efforts throughout Florida. “These investments support our communities and contribute to major Everglades restoration projects,” he added.
