Gas prices across the state of Florida have hit their lowest point since December 2023, according to AAA.

As of Sunday, the state’s average gas price was $2.97 per gallon—two cents below the previous 2024 low and the lowest daily average in more than a year. This marks a 13-cent drop from both last week and last month, and a 55-cent decrease compared to the same time last year. The cost to fill a 15-gallon tank now averages $44.55, saving drivers $8.25 from a year ago.

Over 70% of Florida gas stations are selling fuel for under $3 per gallon. The cheapest 10% of stations average $2.76 per gallon, while the most expensive 10% average $3.35 per gallon.

Why Are Gas Prices Falling?

“Lower oil prices and strong gasoline production have driven gas prices to their lowest in more than a year,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, prices may not continue to fall, as spring factors like refinery maintenance, increased demand, and the switch to summer gasoline usually push prices higher.”

Where Is Gas Cheapest in Florida?

AAA reports that the most expensive gas prices in Florida are found in:

  • West Palm Beach-Boca Raton: $3.11
  • Gainesville: $3.08
  • Naples: $3.06

The cheapest gas can be found in:

  • Panama City: $2.84
  • Crestview-Fort Walton Beach: $2.84
  • Pensacola: $2.90

How to Save on Gas

AAA suggests these tips to maximize fuel savings:

  • Combine errands to reduce unnecessary driving.
  • Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, which can lower fuel efficiency.
  • Remove extra weight from your vehicle—every 100 pounds removed can improve fuel economy by 1-2%.
  • Compare gas prices in your area using the AAA mobile app.
  • Pay with cash, as some stations charge extra for credit card transactions.
