With spring break in full swing, parking at Treasure Island’s beaches is more challenging than ever. One of the city’s major lots, located at 112th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard, remains closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene, removing 112 crucial spaces from an already limited selection.

Visitors like Alice Ingman, visiting from Scotland, and Andrew Reeves from Indiana are adjusting to the situation. “Not bad as long as you get here early,” Reeves told WTVT. However, locals and business owners are feeling the impact. Richie Mahoney, who owns Suncoast Sailing nearby, said the closure has significantly reduced foot traffic to his store.

Although the parking lot is on Treasure Island, it is operated by the City of St. Petersburg, which is responsible for repairs. A city spokesperson stated that the concession stand is a total loss and the parking area is unsafe due to erosion and asphalt damage. Officials are evaluating rebuild options, but there is no timeline for reopening.

Treasure Island’s Public Information Officer, Jason Beisel, emphasized the strain on parking, noting that while events continue to draw crowds, many visitors have expressed frustration. Discussions between Treasure Island and St. Petersburg officials are planned to determine the lot’s future.

In the meantime, officials encourage visitors to explore other parking options, including private lots and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority’s Suncoast Beach Trolley.
