Officials in Treasure Island are requesting additional information as they deliberate on waiving permit fees for residents looking to elevate or demolish homes post-Hurricane Helene.
A workshop was convened Tuesday evening where city commissioners instructed City Manager Chuck Anderson to compile data on the number of permits already issued.
The next session is set for March 4.
The commissioners expressed that they wish for these waivers to benefit residents who were in their homes at the time of the hurricane, rather than developers acquiring properties.
Local resident Tom Lance, whose home on Sunset Beach has flooded four times in recent years, plans to elevate his house. He supports the waiver, stating, “This isn’t free. I’m aware of the Elevate Florida program, but we’re investing a lot because we cherish our community.”
