Hillsborough County is offering a course on hurricane preparedness for homeowners.
It’s only been a few months since the Bay Area endured the wrath of back-to-back hurricanes Helene and Milton, which caused significant damage to Florida’s trees.
Although the 2025 hurricane season doesn’t officially begin until June, now is the ideal time to assess the health and safety of the trees in your yard, according to Alyssa Vinson, an extension agent with Hillsborough County.
This Wednesday, Hillsborough County is providing a day-long tree and landscaping course aimed at preparing homeowners for the upcoming season.
The course will cover various topics, including inspecting tree roots, identifying pests that may threaten your trees, and proactive pruning techniques.
The session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma.
