After four months of reconstruction, the Coquina Beach Cafe has reopened its doors in Manatee County. The reopening this weekend was a heartfelt moment for many, as diners said it felt like reuniting with an old friend after last year’s hurricane damage.

“We’ve waited for this for so long, and it’s so great to see it back open again,” said customer Samantha Gant. Despite the chilly weather, she and others braved the cold to enjoy a snack before a beach stroll.

The cafe, known for its range of offerings from coffee and sandwiches to beach chair and umbrella rentals, had been closed due to the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

“We had like three feet of sand in the place, no electric. It was tough, but it was never a question if we’d reopen again; it was just when,” said Phil Francisco from Coquina Beach Cafe.

Francisco also mentioned that their other similar establishments on Anna Maria Island had also sustained damage but have since been remodeled and repaired, anticipating a busy season ahead.
