Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Monday plans for a special legislative session to begin January 27, focusing on hurricane recovery efforts and other policy priorities.

Key Agenda Items

The special session will address multiple issues:

Hurricane Recovery

  • Additional hurricane relief funding
  • Agricultural assistance
  • Home repair programs
  • Authority to direct local officials on recovery efforts

Condominium Reform

  • Financial relief for condo owners following policy changes enacted after the 2021 Surfside collapse

Education Policy

  • Proposed repeal of in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants
    • Law has been in effect since 2014
    • Governor describes it as “an incentive for coming to the state illegally”

“We don’t have the ability to just sit around and wait with a new president taking office, with these new policy changes that are coming,” DeSantis said during Monday’s press briefing.
