Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Monday plans for a special legislative session to begin January 27, focusing on hurricane recovery efforts and other policy priorities.
Key Agenda Items
The special session will address multiple issues:
Hurricane Recovery
- Additional hurricane relief funding
- Agricultural assistance
- Home repair programs
- Authority to direct local officials on recovery efforts
Condominium Reform
- Financial relief for condo owners following policy changes enacted after the 2021 Surfside collapse
Education Policy
- Proposed repeal of in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants
- Law has been in effect since 2014
- Governor describes it as “an incentive for coming to the state illegally”
“We don’t have the ability to just sit around and wait with a new president taking office, with these new policy changes that are coming,” DeSantis said during Monday’s press briefing.
