Clearwater residents have recently raised concerns about an unpleasant odor emanating from the Northeast Water Reclamation Facility. City officials have attributed the issue to the failure of an anaerobic digester at the plant.
In a social media update, the City of Clearwater acknowledged the situation and reassured residents that efforts are underway to address and mitigate the smell.
The Northeast Water Reclamation Facility underwent significant upgrades in 2023, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. However, the current malfunction of the anaerobic digester requires extensive repairs. The city has announced that the design phase for these repairs is expected to be completed by this summer, with construction slated to begin in the fall.
In the meantime, the facility has outlined measures to reduce the odor’s impact on the surrounding community. Officials emphasized their commitment to accelerating the repair process as much as possible to restore normal operations.
