The Dunedin Marina remains closed following significant damage caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Repairs are estimated to exceed $10 million, and city leaders are considering the possibility of modernizing the marina as part of the restoration process.

Currently, much of the marina is fenced off, including areas with a collapsed seawall that require replacement. The closure has impacted the marina’s role as a key attraction for both locals and tourists.

Caleb Hamilton, assistant general manager at Bon Appétit, a waterfront restaurant adjacent to the marina, emphasized the marina’s importance to the community.

“It brought opportunity for our business and for Dunedin to grow,” Hamilton said of the marina. “It’s a shame to see it damaged like this.”

City commissioners and officials recently addressed the future of the marina, with Commissioner Robert Walker underscoring the need for swift action.

“I think collectively as a community, we need to embrace the fact that we have an opportunity to make the gem of our town what it needs to be,” Walker said.

Efforts to clear the marina of boats are ongoing as preparation for repairs begins. City leaders plan to discuss potential designs for the updated marina during a meeting on January 21.
