In 2024, there was a significant rise in store closures nationwide, with many brands deciding to shut down physical locations, particularly in Florida.
According to retail data provider CoreSight, there’s been a 24% increase in store closures compared to the previous year, influenced by the move towards online shopping, inflation, and company bankruptcies. Here’s a list of the 11 prominent retailers planning to close stores in Florida this year:
- Party City to Close All Stores, Including 46 in FL: Party City is ceasing operations after 40 years as a leading party goods supplier, with closures in Florida.
- Express to Close 5 FL Stores Amid Bankruptcy: Express, amidst its bankruptcy filing, plans to close about 95 stores across the US, including 5 in Florida.
- Home Improvement Chain to Close All FL Locations: LL Flooring, previously known as Lumber Liquidators, is shutting down all 200 of its stores, both in Florida and nationally.
- Walgreens Closing 1,200 Stores: This closure affects one in seven of its U.S. locations, with specific implications for Florida’s Walgreens branches.
- Clearwater Sam Ash Music Store Closing: Sam Ash Music is closing 18 stores nationwide, with one being in Clearwater, Florida.
- Rue21 to Close All FL Stores: Following a bankruptcy filing, Rue21 plans to liquidate all its Florida stores within four to six weeks.
