Pinellas County’s tourism industry demonstrated remarkable resilience in 2024, welcoming 15.4 million visitors and generating $11.2 billion in revenue despite facing significant weather challenges. Visit St. Pete-Clearwater reports that the destination recorded 4 million visitors and 4 million hotel room nights booked throughout the year.
“St. Pete-Clearwater proved that it is one of the top destinations for local, domestic, and international travelers seeking award-winning beaches and ready to explore the incredible experiences found within our slice of paradise,” said Brian Lowack, President and CEO of Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.
While Hurricanes Helene and Milton impacted the region and continue to affect local communities, tourism remains strong. Kathleen Peters, Pinellas County Commissioner and Tourist Development Council Chair, emphasized the area’s enduring appeal: “Despite recent storm-related challenges, Pinellas County is still shining bright with award-winning beaches, world-class dining, hands-on art experiences, and recreational activities, all eager to welcome guests in 2025.”
The destination received several notable accolades in 2024:
- Clearwater Beach was recognized among the world’s 15 best white-sand beaches by Travel + Leisure, standing as the only U.S. mainland beach to receive this honor
- Fort DeSoto Park earned recognition from USA Today as one of America’s best dog-friendly beaches
- Hubbard’s Marina maintained its position as USA Today’s best fishing charter in America for the third consecutive year
“The Pinellas County tourism and hospitality industry continues to grow and drive incredible economic impact for all our residents,” Peters added, highlighting the sector’s vital role in the local economy.
