Residents of Largo, who were flooded out during recent Hurricanes Helene and Milton, are set to voice their concerns to city leaders later today.
Some homeowners claim that the city’s actions have led to their properties being flooded. Felicia Ogilby, a 19-year resident of the McKay Creek neighborhood, described the devastation: “Everybody lost everything. You went down our road and everyone’s entire lives were just out there, they literally lost everything.”
Ogilby emphasized that the damage from these storms is unprecedented in the community, as back-to-back hurricanes have never struck. She and other neighbors feel that city officials have not done enough to assist those affected.
“I don’t have millions like the city does; I can’t keep up with the infrastructure changes on both ends of me while being left high and dry in the middle. Not just me, but everyone on this road,” Ogilby stated, pointing to what she believes is poor infrastructure management as the cause of the flooding.
A community meeting is scheduled for Monday at Largo City Hall, where members of the administration, engineering department, and the streets and stormwater division will be present to address questions and concerns.
Ogilby is hopeful that this discussion will prompt action. She expressed her frustration, saying, “I’m so confused about what we need to do because no one is helping us. The city doesn’t help, the county doesn’t help; it’s just an us problem. I’m very frustrated.”
The meeting is specifically aimed at families from the McKay Creek and Church Creek neighborhoods and will commence at 5 p.m. tonight.
