If a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, is on your holiday itinerary, brace yourself for potential crowds.

A recent study by Rustic Pathways, a student travel company, revealed that Busch Gardens ranks fourth on the list of the most overcrowded tourist destinations in the U.S. during the Christmas season.

The study analyzed over 900 attractions worldwide by examining Tripadvisor reviews, specifically looking for complaints related to busyness and overcrowding. Phrases like “overcrowded,” “completely packed,” and “long wait” were tallied per 1,000 reviews to determine which locations experience the highest congestion during winter holidays.

Why Are These Spots So Crowded?

Winter holidays are a popular time for travel, with many people flocking to iconic destinations to enjoy seasonal festivities. Rustic Pathways CEO Shayne Fitz attributes part of the congestion to social media, which amplifies interest in these locations.

“Social media has fueled overcrowding as people post their tourist pics online, inspiring more visitors than ever to flock to the same spots,” Fitz explained.

How to Beat the Crowds

If you’re planning to visit a popular attraction like Busch Gardens, Fitz recommends:

  • Opting for weekdays rather than weekends.
  • Arriving during non-peak hours, such as early mornings or late afternoons.

While the festive atmosphere can make these destinations magical during the holidays, preparing for crowds can ensure a more enjoyable experience.
