Currently, Airside D, which will feature 16 gates, is in the preliminary design phase, with 30% of the design completed. The renderings offer a preview of what travelers can expect once construction is complete. The airport aims to have the design finalized by the end of 2025, with the entire project expected to conclude by 2028.
A Modern International Arrival Area at TPA
The renderings highlight several key elements:
- Glass boarding bridges will provide breathtaking views of the airfield.
- A two-level structure with a mezzanine, including two airline lounges offering vistas of both the airfield and Tampa Bay.
- An expansive international arrival area on the ground floor, directly connected to international flights.
- Centralized shopping and dining areas, encircled by panoramic gate views under a high, expansive ceiling.
The board also greenlit a $91 million contract to kick off the project’s initial stages, which will cover site preparation, installation of security fencing, and utility adjustments. The groundbreaking ceremony is slated for December 18.
Catering to Increasing Passenger Numbers
The $1.5 billion Airside D project is set to manage the anticipated surge in passenger numbers, expected to hit 35 million per year by 2037. This expansion ensures TPA can effectively serve the growing Tampa Bay community.
