Pinellas Park officials are set to break ground on a long-awaited public safety complex next week, marking a significant step forward for the city’s police and fire departments.

The state-of-the-art facility will house the Pinellas Park Police Department and a brand-new fire station, providing much-needed upgrades for both teams.

A Much-Needed Upgrade for Firefighters

Fire Chief Brett Schlatterer highlighted the benefits of the new complex, noting that it addresses decades-old challenges. Standing inside one of the current fire stations, built in 1978, Schlatterer explained the significant improvements awaiting his team.

“These are bedrooms shared by three people, one per shift,” he said, pointing to cramped quarters. “The new station will have private rooms for everyone.”

Enhanced Space for Law Enforcement

The new facility will also cater to the growing needs of the police department. Lt. John Shea shared his excitement, emphasizing the building’s ability to accommodate the city’s expansion.

“The city’s growth demands a larger law enforcement presence,” Shea said. “We’re running out of space in our current facility and need to prepare for the future.”

Shea also noted additional features of the new police building, including a multi-purpose training room and hurricane-resistant construction, ensuring the department can continue to serve the community in extreme conditions.

Details on the New Complex

The project will consist of two interconnected buildings—one for the fire department and another for the police department—linked by a walkway.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at a location adjacent to the current police station.

This milestone marks the culmination of years of planning and promises a safer, more efficient workspace for first responders while better serving the growing needs of the Pinellas Park community.
