Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. has issued a recall for hundreds of bags of “Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips” dog treats over potential salmonella contamination.
The voluntary recall affects 16-ounce purple-and-black bags distributed to Hollywood Feed stores across 19 states and through the company’s online retailer. The specific lot number at risk is 20051324L2, with an expiration date of November 13, 2025. This is the only lot number identified as potentially contaminated.
The recalled treats were sent to stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Salmonella infection in humans can cause symptoms ranging from mild to severe, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more serious complications such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis may occur.
Dogs consuming the contaminated treats may exhibit lethargy, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Asymptomatic pets can become carriers and potentially spread the infection to other pets or humans.
The recall follows third-party laboratory testing that detected contamination in a related, unreleased product lot. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this specific recall.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled treats should stop feeding them to their pets immediately. Health experts advise washing hands thoroughly and disinfecting any surfaces that may have come into contact with the product. Pet owners should monitor their animals for signs of illness and consult a veterinarian if symptoms appear.
The company is offering full refunds or replacement products. Customers can contact Carolina Prime Pet directly by emailing treats@carolinaprimepet.com or calling 828-394-6460 during business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
