Today, Hillsborough County leaders are set to discuss dedicating additional funding to support recovery efforts following the recent back-to-back hurricanes.

A proposed $5.6 million would come from the Hope Affordable Housing Fund, which typically provides local public funds to create, preserve, and improve affordable housing. This allocation would be especially helpful for mobile homeowners, who face unique challenges in accessing state and federal disaster aid.

“The purpose of this is to fill in the gap where our state and federal funding can’t help us,” said Brenda Brackins with the county. “We can use some federal and state resources, but those funds don’t extend to aid for mobile homes and mobile home parks.”

A portion of the proposed funding would also be used to provide services and programs to assist other residents throughout Hillsborough County in their recovery from the hurricanes.

County leaders will review the funding proposal during today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting.
