Growing congestion at the intersection of Boyette Road and U.S. 301 in Tampa Bay has prompted plans for improvements, particularly for westbound drivers turning left onto southbound U.S. 301.

The current five-lane configuration on westbound Boyette Road includes a single left turn lane, two through lanes, and two right lanes. The left turn lane, measuring 335 feet, often cannot handle peak traffic volume, causing backups that spill into through lanes.

Local resident Steven Robinson describes the situation as “crazy” during morning and afternoon rush hours when speaking to Bay News 9. “You have to fight to get over to get around them, or wait for the light to change again,” he says. Robinson suggests either extending the turn lane or reconfiguring the intersection to accommodate two left turn lanes.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced plans to address these concerns. A construction project beginning early next year will add a second left turn lane, with both lanes extending to 780 feet. This improvement should help alleviate traffic congestion at the intersection.
