Residents at Silver Lake Mobile Home Park in Pinellas County are still waiting for electricity nearly three weeks after Hurricane Milton knocked down power poles.
While a few homes have had power restored after media outreach on Monday, many remain in the dark at Silver Lake in Lealman. Duke Energy explained that it couldn’t reconnect power until privately owned poles were repaired by electricians, who only recently completed those fixes. Around 20 trailers, however, are still without power.
Resident Cat Myers expressed her frustration, demanding communication and accountability from Lakeshore Management, which owns the park. “Answer the phones, answer the emails,” she told Channel 10 News. “I want answers as to why it took so long.” Myers said her father, who lost his home in Hurricane Helene, moved in with her only to face another storm and prolonged outage. “They managed to send the rent bills on time, though,” she added, mentioning that she spent her late mother’s memorial anniversary and her 49th birthday in the dark.
Another resident, Marissa Hancock, spent $800 on generator fuel to keep her mother’s insulin cold. She finally got power back Monday night but, like others, is uncertain about paying upcoming rent. “We’re just watching people around us get their power back and thinking, ‘What about us? Did you forget us?’”
Efforts to reach Lakeshore Management for comment on the delayed repairs went unanswered.
