The Tampa Bay Rays could potentially play their 2025 home games at the Toronto Blue Jays’ player development complex in Dunedin, Florida, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reports. This possibility has emerged after Hurricane Milton caused significant damage to the Rays’ home stadium, Tropicana Field, potentially rendering it unusable for the upcoming season.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has requested an assessment of Tropicana Field’s condition by Christmas. The Rays are currently evaluating the extent of the damage, a process expected to take several weeks.

The Blue Jays’ Dunedin facility, which underwent a major renovation in 2021 with an investment of nearly $100 million, could serve as a viable temporary solution. The complex received high praise from Blue Jays President and CEO Mark Shapiro, who described it as “the best complex in all of Major League Baseball” during its unveiling. Shapiro emphasized the facility’s potential to help bring World Series championships to Canada.

Currently, the Dunedin complex serves as the Blue Jays’ spring training site and hosts their Single-A affiliate. The facility previously accommodated the Blue Jays’ major league team during part of the 2021 season due to COVID-19 restrictions.
