Pinellas County Schools will hold a special board meeting Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to discuss making up 46.5 hours of instruction time lost during Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The meeting, set for the administration building’s conference hall, will consider several proposed schedule adjustments across all grade levels.
Confirmed Changes:
- Monday, January 6: Already approved as hurricane makeup day for all students
- November 25-26: Previously scheduled Thanksgiving break days now designated as makeup days
Proposed Schedule Adjustments by Grade Level:
High School:
- Convert February 17 and May 29 to regular school days
- Waive Semester 1 exams (except for dual enrollment courses)
- Modify Semester 1 grade calculations to average Q1 and Q2 letter grades
- Maintain end-of-May graduation schedule (locations pending)
Middle School:
- Convert February 17 and May 29 to regular school days
- Waive Semester 1 exams
- Modify Semester 1 grade calculations to average Q1 and Q2 letter grades
Elementary School:
- Convert February 17 and May 29 to regular school days
Additional Options Under Consideration:
- Shift Semester 1 completion to January, maintaining exams
- Add April 18 and 21 as makeup days
- Extend daily school hours
- Lengthen the academic year
