The Pinellas County School Board has finalized plans to recover approximately 50 hours of instruction time lost due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The board approved the following calendar changes at a Tuesday workshop:

New School Days

  • January 6 (previously off)
  • February 17 (previously off)
  • May 29 (extended from half-day to full-day)

Additional Changes

  • First-semester exams will be waived
  • High school graduations rescheduled to late May (previously mid-May)
  • No changes to Thanksgiving or spring break schedules

“Our staff have thoughtfully balanced academic excellence with compassion for what our community has experienced during the storms,” said Board Chair Laura Hine. “Waiving first semester exams will preserve approximately four additional instructional days while moving graduations to late May provides several more days of classroom time.”

The new calendar will take effect immediately, pending final approval at the October 29th vote. All graduations will still occur before the end of May, with no extensions into June.
