Power outages started to occur late Wednesday afternoon in Pinellas County, just hours before Hurricane Milton made landfall to the south, somewhere around Siesta Key. Although the cyclone made landfall, the south of Tampa Bay, storm was large enough to sweep over a wide swath, making its up and across the Sunshine State.

Hurricane Milton left at least 2 million Florida homes without power and that number dropped in half within approximately 2 days. Going into Saturday, some 556,000 plus Pinellas residences were still without electricity, and as of 6:00 p.m. today, it’s down to 216, 648, with Duke estimating service will be restored to all houses by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.

Curiously, some neighborhoods are only partially powered, with some homes having restoration while neighbors, only across the street or the property next door remain without service. In some instances, just small sections do not have power, wow, the surrounding area is receiving electricity.

Duke Energy has updated its outages map, but internal technical difficulties do not allow for its usual precision, and the company says that it is working internally to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of customers must rely on generators or coolers to eat them through until late night Tuesday.
