Due to the surge in West Nile Virus cases, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County has issued a Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory. Neighboring counties have also detected the virus through similar programs. Residents are advised to follow these steps to prevent mosquito bites:

  • Dress in light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Defend by using insect repellent containing CDC-recommended ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
  • Dump or cover standing water, including any storm debris that may hold water.

Additionally, residents should use screens on open windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. Damaged screens should be repaired to prevent mosquito entry.
