The PCSO reports an increase in construction companies and door-to-door salespeople going to houses damaged by Hurricane Helene in several mainland neighborhoods and also trying to gain access to the beach communities.

Be aware that unlicensed contractors often target homeowners following a storm and may offer low rates and fast turnaround times. While some of these companies and individuals look legitimate, it’s important to check their credentials.

The PCSO is asking residents affected by the storm to ensure that any contractors they hire for repairs are properly licensed. Find out if they are licensed here at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation on the state’s official website: https://www2.myfloridalicense.com/emergency/

Any individuals or companies posing as licensed contractors can be reported to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office or the Florida DBPR.
